Google is expanding its voice and visual search tool to over 200 countries and regions. This innovation is built on a multilingual new voice model and fundamentally changes the way we interact with the search engine.
Highlights:
- Search Live is now available in all countries and languages where Google's AI Mode is accessible, meaning over 200 countries and regions.
- This feature allows users to ask questions aloud and use the camera for real-time assistance.
- The expansion has been made possible with the new locally multilingual model Gemini 3.1 Flash Live.
- Search Live can be accessed from the Google app on Android and iOS.
Google announced the global expansion of Search Live on March 26, 2026. This is the interactive search feature available in the AI Mode of the Google app. Previously limited to certain markets, this feature is now open to all users in languages and countries where AI Mode is available.
How Does Search Live Work?
Search Live differs from classic search with its chat-style and multimodal structure. The user opens the Google app on Android or iOS, clicks on the Live icon located below the search bar, and can directly ask their question aloud. They receive a voice response and can then ask follow-up questions or browse web links to explore the topic in depth.
This feature also integrates the phone's camera. If you are facing a concrete problem, such as mounting a wall shelf, you can activate your camera to let Search see what you see and ask for suitable suggestions. This same option is also available directly through Google Lens: a Live button appears at the bottom of the screen to switch to real-time chat mode.
Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, the Engine Behind the Expansion
This global rollout has been made possible by Google's new voice and audio model, Gemini 3.1 Flash Live. It offers more natural and fluid conversations and is particularly characterized by being locally multilingual. This means users can communicate with Search in their own languages without needing to make special settings; this was a significant barrier for previous international rollouts.
What Purposes Can It Be Used For?
Search Live is designed for situations where typing a query is impractical or insufficient: crafts, cooking, travel, identifying an object or plant... It is ideal for anything that requires instant visual or verbal assistance and necessitates a dialogue-style interaction instead of a simple text query.
